What steps do you know about packaging from design to landing?

1: Determine the box type

In general, the box types required for packaging are provided by the party or refer to some regular box types already available on the platform. If there is no special demand, it is not recommended to use a particularly novel package for two reasons:

(1) Novel packaging box type requires new structure design and molding, and even requires multiple sampling to finalize the appropriate data, which invariably prolongs the packaging design time, but also increases a certain amount of design costs.

(2) Novel packaging can certainly be new, but the new way to open whether the consumer expectations, adapt to the consumer's perception of packaging needs to be considered, the risk is greater.


2: Design packaging graphics

After determining the box type knife plate, you need to accurately measure the outer dimensions of the product, so as to set the inner dimensions of the box. You know, under normal circumstances, the inner size of the box should be 2-3mm larger than the outer size of the product, after which you can carry out the conception and creative design on the plane.

Here we need to remind, packaging design also need to take into account the material and process chosen for the box, the color difference of the printing, and the area of the special process.


3: Printing proofs

Packaging production in the batch output before the proposal is still to carry out proofing checks, product and packaging size fit, design effect or proofing effect whether to meet expectations need to be considered in advance. For unsatisfactory or non-standard places, still need to communicate many times, repeated design modifications.

The most critical and most easily overlooked point, the presentation effect of the box, especially the box needs to be put on the shelf display, must not only look at the office, to put the package on the shelf to feel and compare!


4: Checking important information and modifying it

Box product information, brand logo, bar code and other information is very important, must be repeatedly checked to ensure that there is no printing error before the next step.

As the saying goes: “All hands on deck”, in this aspect of information checking, we must fully mobilize the relevant personnel, layer by layer checking, a little to confirm that the information is correct. It is believed that each person is responsible for different business, focusing on different perspectives, the proposal to modify the point of view of more reference, so as to avoid unnecessary losses.


5: Printing types

There are mainly lithographic printing, digital printing, flexographic printing and gravure printing in the market today.

Flatbed printing is also known as four-color offset printing, which is mostly used for the regular printing of packaging boxes, and is one of the most popular printing methods in the market.

Digital printing is mostly used for sampling and small batch printing, without the cost of the machine, sampling is cost-effective.

Flexographic printing is more environmentally friendly and is mostly used for corrugated printing without face paper.

Gravure printing is more complex, commonly used in plastic bag packaging printing.


6: Packaging Printing Process

Packaging processing is a packaging product upgrade operation done to further improve the appearance of packaging. Simply put, it is the use of special processes to make the box more advanced, more texture.

Common special processes on the market are UV, hot stamping, embossing, etc. After these processes, the finished package will become more detailed and more beautiful. The price of special process is more expensive, used in exquisite gift boxes more, ordinary commodity packaging is still recommended to focus on simplicity.


7: molding backchannel

The final stage of the box molding, that is, in the printed packaging template for die-cutting, gluing and other tools, so that the box is finally shaped, in addition to the aircraft box does not need to be glued, the general box default will choose to paste the box to leave the factory.


This step is the last step before the printing factory shipment, in principle, the designer can not control, but also to make a small reminder about whether the box needs to be glued, whether it needs to be pre-folded; handbags need to be folded paper bags, be sure to communicate clearly before printing.
